This very unique foundation was founded in 2001 with the goal of bringing artists, writers and choreographers to Everglades National Park for month-long residencies. “The AIRIE program is different from other Park residencies in that it is also helping us make the outdoors a place of belonging for all visitors,” shares Pedro Ramos, Superintendent of Everglades National Park, a critically endangered wetlands adjacent to Miami, Florida.

“AIRIE is committed to uplifting the voices and ideas of BIPOC artists, especially as they relate to the natural world.” Elements of Being was developed to reflect the beauty and impact created from the Everglades National Park and AIRIE partnership by brining together a collective body of work from diverse voices including Arsimmer McCoy, Gentry Isaiah George and Kunya Rowley. The installation was designed to ignite collective action for environmental, social and racial justice.
